SEPTEMBER 7, 2022

Generally, we avoid talking directly about other BPM products, first, because we get on well with these product companies and people, and second, because it feels a bit weak. After all, a good product should stand out on its own.

However, [you knew that was coming] we’ve had so many people come to us about migrating from Camunda 7 and Activiti 5 or 6 that, in this case, we will name names. If you’re one of these people thinking about the challenges of migrating to something familiar with long-term support and a constant growth of features and performance, here’s an option that you can’t afford to ignore.

Remember, Activiti, Camunda and Flowable have a common source, developed by the team behind Flowable, which has evolved architecturally over the years, resulting in Flowable 6, our next generation of open source automation engines. Flowable 6 brings all the benefits of enhanced performance and new features, but with minimal or no changes needed to upgrade (“migrate”) to it.

Migration shouldn’t be hard

Whenever anyone of experience hears the word “migration”, it will cause an involuntary shudder, quickly followed by the thought that it’s best just to start from scratch. Especially if there’s the challenge of deciding what to do about active, running processes and historical data.

Flowable LEAP - Don't panic, migrate your processes

Migration to Flowable isn’t hard

With common origins and some recent open source updates to Flowable’s engines, it is possible to migrate a Camunda 7 or Activiti 5/6 instance to Flowable in-place, including active processes and history. I’ll repeat that louder:

YOU CAN MIGRATE YOUR CAMUNDA AND ACTIVITI DATA TO FLOWABLE IN-PLACE, INCLUDING ACTIVE PROCESS INSTANCES AND HISTORY"

Yes, we are very excited about Flowable LEAP

All your active process instances will be migrated, all your historic data will also be migrated. In more complex uses of specific vendors, a few additional steps are needed, and this is where Flowable LEAP comes in. Flowable LEAP is a free tool that allows you to run a report ahead of time to see exactly what is involved in migrating your specialized processes. This validation tool will continue to be enhanced over time to cover more vendors and use-cases for migration.

Spend time on your business

Don’t spend time on things that are our business, spend time on your business. Use the extra time to improve the processes for your organization, leveraging all the additional capabilities of Flowable Work and its open source engines, rather than learning whole new architectures, execution and deployment paradigms.

It doesn’t get easier than that.

Run Flowable LEAP now
